2. Debt Destroyer Mindset Exercises

(5 points)

Assignment 1: Take stock of your financial inflows and outflows

After watching the lesson videos for this week, utilize a blank sheet of paper, the Debt DestroyerWk5 Workbook, or the “Debt Destroyer Tools and Templates” spreadsheet under the “Advanced Taking Stock” tab.

On the left hand side, write out your Recurring Inflows (Salary, side-income, residual income, etc.) and list out the items from your original taking stock sheet. Under the headers “Start”, “Finish” and “Note”, write in the original values (Start), the actual spend in the prior month (Finish) and the incremental change (New Wedge). Total the columns.

Repeat the steps for Ad Hoc Inflows, Consistent Outflows and Flex Outflows.

Sum Total Inflow, Total Outflow, and Total New Wedge.

Compare the total payments to debt to your Actual Wedge and New Wedge.

Note remarks, improvements, missed opportunities and new actions to add to your attack plan.

Assignment 2: Breaking the Cycle – Measurement

A budget isn’t built in a day, but we can lay the foundation in a week.

  1. Choose the format best suited to you: Paper, Spreadsheet, Application
  2. Utilize your “Taking Stock” sheet to create the framework
  3. Input Actual Spend from the prior month and create your Target Values for the coming month
  4. Input Bold Moves for the week that will translate to your Weekly Attack Plan

Assignment 3: Create your Weekly Attack Plan (5 points)

Take a blank sheet and title it “Weekly Attack Plan.”

Draft three (3) Spend Offenses. Leverage the efficiencies, eliminations and behavioral changes identified in the Value Alignment and Expanding the Wedge exercises, or include any other opportunities to expand your wedge.

Building a budget can be time consuming, so feel free to use your daily pomodoro to work on the budget instead of Spend Offensives or Positive Influxes.

Spend Offensive Examples:

  • Give yourself a cash allowance
  • Eliminate “squishiness” by buying only groceries at the grocery store, beer at the beer store, pharmaceuticals at the pharmacy, etc.

Draft three (3) Positive Influxes, hustles, initiatives and easy wins to generate cash inflow.

Positive Influx Examples:

  • Upgrade your hardware on the company dime
  • Teach your child budgeting and goal setting through a creative summer job like curb painting or gourmet lemonade stand

Sum all initiatives to calculate your Estimated Free Cash Flow (FCF) potential.

Assignment 4: DAILY Spend Offenses OR Positive Influxes (4 points per day for a max total of 16 points)

For 4 days this week, set your timer for 20 minutes and focus on one (1) Spend Offensive or one (1) Positive Influx. You are not measured by effectiveness, you are simply devoting time and intentionally making bold moves with your money.

Building a budget can be time consuming, so feel free to use your daily pomodoro to work on the budget instead of Spend Offensives or Positive Influxes.

Proof pic: Upload a picture of your daily action each day to your fire team channel.

Assignment 5: Review your week and Drive the Wedge (5 points)

At the end of the week, spend some time going back to think about your week.  What worked? What did not? Note your successes and ensure you provide a dollar value.

At the bottom of the sheet, input your Weekly Wedge, your Estimated FCF and Actual Wedge.

Drive the Wedge: Chose an obligation from your Obligation Hit-List and transfer the value of the actual wedge created to the principal balance. This is the single most important step in the entire program.

Make one Bold Move this week to move the needle in any area of your life (For example your health, wealth, relationship, family, work or personal life). It is strongly recommended (though not required) that you make a Bold Move that is directly related to one of your Debt Destruction.

Bold Move Ideas:

  • Check that mole out
  • Spend time with men who are wealthier than you
  • Resurrect weekly date night

Proof pic: Upload a photo or video of your Bold Move to your fire team channel. (5 points).

If you need more information about the concept of Bold Moves, refer to the 50 BOLD User Manual.
