GET SHIT DONE: Week 01

Welcome to Week 1 of the 12-week GET SHIT DONE Challenge!

Here are your assignments for the week, by category:

1. GSD Lesson

Watch the Overview video plus all five videos in Module 1 (approx 20 minutes total), and post a proof pic/screenshot showing the end of the last video. (2 points)

Veterans just need to watch the Overview video to get their 2 points. The other lesson videos are optional (but recommended) for veterans.

2. GSD Assignments

Assignment 1: Brainstorm your goals for all 6 Pillars (4 points)

After watching the lesson videos for this week, choose one pillar write down 3-5 obvious (light) goals related to that pillar, and then continue writing at the speed of thought to drill down into darker goal territory, and keep writing all the way down to the bottom of the page. Repeat for each of your 6 pillars.

Veterans: Simply review your previously-brainstormed list to ensure you are still in alignment with your current dark goals. If you’ve already achieved one of your dark goals, repeat the exercise in that Pillar to come up with a new dark goal.

Proof pic: Upload a photo of your brainstormed lists of light and dark goals (or a quick video flipping through the multiple pages) to your fire team channel.

Assignment 2: Choose your dark goal for each pillar (4 points)

In each pillar, circle the one dark goal that energizes you the most, and if needed, adjust the wording to calibrate each goal on the “realistic to BHAG” continuum.  Then lock it down by writing out each goal in the same language you used when you came up with it. 

Veterans: Review your dark goals and make any replacements or modifications where needed to ensure your dark goals maintain their weight and inspiration.

Proof pic: Upload a photo or screenshot of your finalized list of dark goals to your fire team channel.

Assignment 3: Add your Dark Goals to your Dark Goal Tracker worksheet (4 points)

Open and save your own copy of the Dark Goal Tracker worksheet as a shareable Google Doc. Then, enter your 6 Dark Goals for each respective pillar on row 2 of the worksheet. Use the first video below to see how the spreadsheet will be used.

Proof pic: Post the shareable LINK (NOT a screenshot) to your Dark Goal Tracker to your fire team channel. Use the second video below if you need help sharing the link.

Assignment 4: DAILY ACTION PLAN–At the start of each day for 5 days, write out the tasks you would like to accomplish that day. (4 points per day for a max total of 20 points)

For 5 days this week, start your day by writing out your Daily Action Plan, which for this week is simply a list of tasks you want to accomplish that day.  This is a small daily action that is going to grow and evolve over the next several weeks of this challenge. 

Veterans: Create your full-fledged Legend Page and Daily Action Plan for 5 days.

Proof pic: Upload a picture of your Daily Action Plan each day to your fire team channel. (An example of what that might look like is below.)

Assignment 5: Review your week (4 points)

At the end of the week, spend some time going back to think about your week.  What went well?  What could have gone better?  How are you feeling about your week? 

Veterans: Your review must focus on the following 2 questions:

  1. How well did I execute my NBM’s? 
  2. How effective were those NBM’s at achieving my goals? 

Proof pic: Post your Weekly Review to your fire team channel. Some suggestions for acceptable formats include: a photo of your hand-written page, a screenshot of your typed assessment, or a video.

GSD Lab (optional)

Watch the video below and complete the assignment. This assignment is optional and not scored. It is intended to help you experiment with some more advanced techniques to boost your productivity.

GSD Lab Assignment: Improve Your Dark Goals

Watch the video above and make any changes or adjustments needed to any of your dark goal(s).

Proof pic: Post about how you revised your dark goal(s) to your fire team channel.

3. BOLD MOVE

Make one Bold Move this week to move the needle in any one of the 6 pillars of your life (Health, Wealth, Relationship, Family, Work, Personal). It is strongly recommended (though not required) that you make a Bold Move that is directly related to one of your Dark Goals.

Proof pic: Upload a photo or video of your Bold Move to your fire team channel, and add your Bold Move for this week to your Dark Goal Tracker worksheet under the related Pillar. (5 points).

4. SPECIAL OPS

Your Special Ops assignment for this week is to complete ONE of the three Special Ops listed below, and to substantiate by uploading a proof pic or video to your fire team channel (3 points).

* Special Op #1: Do a 5-mile run. 

* Special Op #2: Teach your child how to use a new tool.

* Special Op #3: Eat some shellfish.

5. MOOT

Join us Friday at 3 PM Central Time for our weekly Moot. Zoom link and password will be posted in Slack each Friday.

Proof pic: Upload a photo or screenshot of the Moot to show you attended the live Moot (4 points) or watched the replay (2 points).
